Seiko Matsuda

Photobucket

Seiko Matsuda has become my newest favorite artist from the 80s, though most people outside Japan don't have a clue who she is. Seiko debuted in 1980 at the age of 18, and during the course of her career has had 24 consecutive #1 hits. Some call her the Madonna of Japan. While most idols last only 2 years or so, Seiko is still performing today, and is believed to be one of the most influential artists in Jpop history.

I can't say I want to know about the songs she made after 1989, and she does have some scandals/controversy to her name, but I choose to focus on the music. It's all so cute - even her later, more mature ballads are likable.
